The South Shore Audubon Society has many opportunities for volunteers. A few of these opportunities are listed below.

Location: Tackapausha Museum and Preserve, 2225 Washington Ave, Seaford

South Shore Audubon has improved and beautified the gardens at the Tackapausha Museum for birds, butterflies, and people with our volunteers, the help of a National Audubon Society Collaborative Grant, and Tackapausha staff. We have added native plants, removed weeds and invasives, and have signs and informational materials. Our volunteer corps meets on the first Saturday morning and third Thursday afternoon of each month (weather permitting) to help maintain and further improve the garden. If you would like more information and/or to join our garden volunteers, please contact Louise DeCesare at 917-548-6974 or Lmdcesare128@gmail.com.

Location: Tackapausha Museum and Preserve, Seaford

When: December

Time: 1:00 to 3:00 P.M.

Volunteers needed to serve refreshments, help with arts and crafts, etc.

Special auditorium programs presented by SSAS.

Beginning in February of 1989, SSAS Duck Survey Chairperson Joe Grupp’s team spent five Saturdays every winter counting ducks in 28 locations from Valley Stream to Massapequa Park, with Paul Butkereit’s team doing the same at 10 locations in southwestern Nassau.

The data being collected provides essential and unprecedented information about the populations of every duck species wintering on our lakes and ponds.

Joe's successor, Bill Belford is looking for volunteers willing to spend a half day or full day viewing and learning about our waterfowl and where to find them. If you’re interested, please call him at 385-1759.
